Seumur hidup, Carl Fredricksen (Edward Asner) selalu memimpikan sebuah petualangan besar. Ia selalu ingin menjelajahi daerah-daerah baru dan pergi berkeliling dunia. Sayangnya hingga ia berusia 78 tahun, semua itu hanya sekedar impian saja dan tak pernah jadi kenyataan.

Setelah istrinya meninggal, Carl mendapat masalah baru. Rumahnya akan digusur dan ia terancam berakhir di panti jompo. Merasa tak ada lagi yang bisa menghalanginya melakukan petualangan seperti yang ia impikan, Carl pun bertekad membawa rumahnya pergi mengelilingi dunia. Untuk mencapai tujuannya, Carl mengikatkan ribuan balon ke rumahnya dan menjadikan seluruh rumahnya sebuah balon terbang.
